“So what rhymes with Michelle, or Lord or Ginieres…? I have spent a large amount of time trying to think of mean sounding derby names. Its a right of passage we will all go through as derby girls and will all need to go through……MINXY MURDER…waitaminute someone already has that one…..ROBIN GRAVES….oh someone already has that one too!!!

It is a FAUX PAS (another one of my considered names) that you have the same of similar name as another derby girl….in the world, yes I did say that, in the world, so yes my english friends that does include the huge roller derby movement from the US of A!! So however clever and original you think you are being, it will have already been done I promise!!

Now finding my name, well I tried many different variations of my name as I was quite certain I wanted to keep something that resembled my name slightly, unlike some girls who go completely out and chose a celebs name and tweak it. Interesting alternative which can come up with such good choices, here are a few, Eleanor Bruisevelt, Rosa Sparkes, Babe Ruthless, Bloody Holly. However before you get any ideas I will mention once again that quite a large number of people are on the roller derby name register, http://www.twoevils.org/rollergirls/ and a lot of them will have had the same idea as you.

Or, the best of the bunch, your fellow team members. I went through countless names and told them to my team and eventually they helped me pick the one that was meant to be, and it quite literally is meant to be. That moment when you know that your pet was meant to be called Boris….it’s like that….kind of. You will know when you have the right name.

Another point to note is that some girls go through countless names before picking one they think is the one. Either way once you have gone through the endless task of picking the right sounding mean roller derby name you then have to pick a number….maybe my lucky number will be ok…it is after all a lot easier to pick.”
